Bark In The Park

Heritage Humane Society's Bark in the Park was held on April 24. 2010 at New Quarter Park in Williamsburg, York County.

We extend a sincere "Thank-You" to all of our Walk participants who browsed through the DogGone Festival and learned about the dedicated work of local and regional animal Rescue groups. Though the weather was a bit on the damp side, enthusiasm was not! Animals and people alike came out to enjoy socializing and beautiful New Quarter park.

Arrow

2011 Bark in the Park Mascot:        Arrow
1.5 year-old male Bull Terrier & Pharaoh Hound mix
Owner:            Steve Miller

Arrow was found as a stray on the street in Philadelphia.  He was brought out of the city to a horse rescue that started helping dogs after Katrina.  I found him on Thanksgiving, thankfully!  Now we go to Waller Mill EVERYDAY and are best buddies!

Brie

2011 HHS Mascot:    Brie
2 year-old female Husky mix (best guess!)
Owner:  Kristi Shaw

Brie is such a wonderful dog, her story starts like many other dogs, but she’s special. My husband and I had discussed getting a puppy, but hadn’t found “the one”, until one day my Aunt called and said that Heritage Humane Society in Williamsburg had just gotten 6 puppies. They were husky mixes, and had been rescued from another shelter, she thought it would be good for us to take a look. So, off to Williamsburg we went, and sure enough it was a perfect match, it’s like she was waiting for us to come get her. As the paperwork was being processed, we rushed to the store to buy her everything we could think of she would need. We signed the papers, and away we went. Much to her surprise (and theirs) we got home and our 2 cats were checking her out. It was a little challenging at first, but they all get along fine now.  Little did we know Brie would have a couple more challenges coming her way. She’s had 3 surgeries, already in her 2 years of life, and was recently diagnosed as an “allergy” dog.
She has a gentle spirit and a friendly personality, and LOVES children! We have a son who is a toddler, and Brie took right to him. He loves his “Brie Brie”, giving her hugs and patting her on her head. He loves to cuddle with her, and she loves to sit under the high chair and catch food as he drops it down for her. They are a pair to watch, and we are looking forward to the years ahead as they “grow up” together. Brie is special is so many ways, its hard to describe the feeling and love you get from animals, but all it takes is one look, or smile and you feel what they feel, which is pure love and gratitude. So we thank Brie, for enriching our lives, as much as we have hers.

We adopted Brie from Heritage Humane Society.  She was a true rescue.  HHS actually rescued her from horrible living conditions and brought her to their shelter   where we found her and fell in love.  She has had 3 surgeries herself and has allergies, but she is a wonderful part of the family.  We adopted her in April 2008 and I found I was pregnant in June 2008. She is wonderful around kids and has a wonderful playmate for years to come.
